A SUPERB match-winning sixth-wicket partnership of 107 in 19 overs between experienced all-rounders Derick Bishop and Kenroy Williams ensured BNB St Catherine eliminated defending champions TeleBarbados Carlton from this year’s Sagicor General Super Cup.
Chasing a modest 155 from the allotted 50 overs, St. Catherine reached the target scoring 158 for six with as many as 17 overs to spare in the quarter-finals yesterday. Their opponents in the semi-final will be UWI, who easily defeated Wanderers at Dayrells Road.
All-rounders Bishop and Williams matched each other stroke for stroke after St. Catherine were in dire straits at 46 for five in the 14th over when they linked up. Bishop, who ended the match with a four, made a polished run-a- ball 55, spiced with six fours and two sixes. Man of the Match Williams hit an impressive 52 from 73 deliveries with three fours.
At the lunch break, Carlton had reduced St. Catherine to 34 for three. Marlon Graham took two for 24 with both wickets in the same over. The third wicket also fell on 26 when Dane Maynard was bowled off the inside edge by Khalid Springer. On resumption, Springer, with three for 36, quickly removed Joel Leacock and Patrick Browne within three balls. However, Bishop and Williams then held sway until Williams was out with two runs needed.
Earlier, Carlton were bundled out off the last ball of the 41st over for a sub-standard 154, about 45 minutes before the lunch break.
They lost two quick wickets after they elected to bat. Richard Greaves and Kevin Ramsay posted 68 for the third wicket in 14 overs before Greaves was caught off Marlon Franklyn. He made 49 from 54 balls including four fours and two sixes. One run later, Ramsay who made 24 was taken behind off Williams, who took two for 35 from his 10 overs with the new ball.
Carlo Morris struck 41, containing three fours and one six from 62 balls. He was eighth out when he spooned a catch to short mid-wicket off fast-bowler Marlon Franklyn who picked up three for 23 from eight pacy overs.
Off-spinner Stefan Gooding supported two for 17.
