ST JOHN’S – Dominica has come in for lavish praise from West Indies Cricket Board president Julian Hunte for its successful hosting of the One-Day double-header against South Africa last weekend.
“The event was very well organised and we saw two very good days of cricket on the field. Off the field, the systems were in place for the adequate running of an international event and the people of Dominica should be very proud,” Hunte said.
“The WICB was extremely happy with the support we received from the government of Dominica and the Dominica Cricket Association in organising the matches.”
Despite the flawless delivery by organisers, West Indies lost both matches at Windsor Park to go 0-4 down in the five-match series.
They lost the third game last Friday by 67 runs before also going down by seven wickets on Sunday, despite getting over 300 runs batting first.
Hunte said the support from the Dominican public had been tremendous, resulting in perhaps one of the biggest attendances of the series to date on Sunday.
“We had two excellent days of cricket and the people really came out to support the game and show their love for the West Indies team,” Hunte noted.
“The crowd last Sunday was the biggest we have seen so far this year in the Digicel Series, and this demonstrated the passion for the game.
“It was also a joy to see the way the fans participated in the cricket by bringing their flags, music, and this showcased the life, colour and culture of the people. The entire cricketing world got the opportunity to see beauty of the country. It was Dominica at its best.” (CMC)
