One of Barbados’ not-so-proud Christmas traditions is unloading massive quantities of garbage on the streets which can prove a problem for the Sanitation Service Authority to remove quickly.
This problem can be seen in rural areas such as St Joseph but nowhere is it more prevalent – or unsightly – than in the environs of The City where piles of appliances, mattresses and toys are often mixed with refuse and grass clippings.
Residents of Dunlow Lane are among hundreds of householders wondering how many more days they will have to wait before their garbage is collected.
For just over a month, some in the urban community complained that the trash in the area had not been removed, and since then householders have been piling up old appliances and other trash as part of the usual Christmas cleaning. (CA)
