Dig deep!

BARGAINS, NEW PRODUCTS and a festive atmosphere drew hundreds to the 30th annual Barbados Manufacturers’ Exhibition (BMEX) yesterday as Minister of Industry Denis Kellman called on manufacturers to dig deep for even newer ideas.
Speaking at BMEX’s breakfast meeting for buyers and manufacturers at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Kellman said manufacturers were constantly being called upon to devise creative and innovative ways to offset and mitigate the impact of the economic crisis and world trade challenges, but such events provided opportunities for success.
“We need to dig deep and come up with creative ways to diversify our practices and methods in order to survive. Now is the time for manufacturers to explore niches in overseas markets and penetrate, for in so doing, the ability to maintain a competitive edge will be made easier.
“Events like BMEX present opportunities which must be harnessed as they will enable us to make our mark . . . . We have to follow the export story of Banks Brewery with its Banks beer and the condiments industry,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the Buy Bajan brand.
