It was a rarity – and may even be a record.
Two captains completed centuries on the second day of the second Test between West Indies and England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham yesterday.
Darren Sammy, whose place in the Caribbean side has been under question, achieved a maiden Test hundred (106) early in the day after resuming from an overnight 88.
Just before the close, Sammy’s opposite number Andrew Strauss completed a second century in successive matches, finishing unbeaten on 102 in a strong response of 259 for two to West Indies’ 370.
The feats left statisticians searching for any previous instance when two captains reached three digits on the same day of a Test match.
