‘QEH cut could cause crisis’

DOCTORS TURNED  OUT at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s  (QEH) auditorium yesterday to voice  their concerns  about the implications  of the $35 million  cut in funding  to the institution.
The DAILY NATION understands that medical practitioners, who included heads of departments of the hospital, spoke emotionally at the  closed meeting called  by the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP).
Many were said  to have repeated  the association’s view  that the bad situation  at the hospital  could turn into  a “crisis” if the Budget  cuts go ahead.
According to  a Press release from BAMP, it was generally agreed in the meeting  that the current staffing levels at the QEH  were not optimal  and any removal  of temporary doctors employed in the healthcare system  would not be without  an effect on the  quality of care  and safety of patients.
