Teen facing nine charges

Eighteen-year-old Mateo Menal, of 1st Avenue Seclusion Gardens, Black Rock, St Michael, has been arrested and charged with nine offences.

He was charged with failing to register motor vehicle MZ233, fraudulent use of number plate MZ233, fraudulent use XD303, failing to stop at stop sign, failing to comply with PC in uniform, dangerous driving, failing to stop at the sound of a siren, no insurance, and not having a drivers licence.

Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, police were conducting traffic checks in Broad Street, Bridgetown, St Michael.

Police observed the motor vehicle with the front number plate MZ 233, turn left from Milk Market Road on to Broad Street without stopping at the major stop.

Police signalled Menal to stop, but he picked up speed resulting in a pursuit along Prince William Henry Street, Whitepark Road on to County Road where the driver was subsequently apprehended.

Police also observed that the rear number plate differed from the front number plate XD 303, Menal was arrested and taken to Central Police Station.

He appeared in the Bridgetown Traffic Court today, before magistrate Graveney Bannister and pleaded guilty to all of the offences. He was remanded until December 13, pending a probation report. (PR)
