Glaring gender gaps!

BARBADIAN YOUNG WOMEN are being urged not to settle for second place but to recognize that there is room for their gender at the top in all areas of pursuit.
This word of encouragement came from Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, Barbados’ principal delegate and vice-president of the Inter-American Commission of Women/Organization of American States as she gave remarks at the Bureau of Gender Affairs and the National Organization of Women’s (NOW) colloquium at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday.
The colloquium, held under the theme Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures, was held in celebration of International Women’s Day 2012.
Sandiford-Garner told the meeting that drew young women from various secondary schools across the island that the fact that more young women were not vocal on issues that concerned women’s advancement was a cause for concern.
