Two Bajans settle for B final

Barbadians Sadé-Mariah Greenidge and Shaquille Alleyne are in the “B” finals of their respective events at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore.Yesterday, Greenidge finished fourth in her heat of the 100m hurdles in a personal best 14.02 seconds, but it was not among the top eight times.The same held for Alleyne in the 400 metres. With a time of 48.68 seconds, third in his heat, he too missed the cut for the finals.Late last night, Anthonio Mascoll was scheduled to compete in the 1 000 metres.Tennis player Darian King lost his first-round singles match to No. 14 Juan Sebastian Gomez, 6-3, 6-2. This was a reversal of the last time the two met when King defeated Gomez 6-4, 6-4 at the Gerry Weber Junior Tournament earlier this year. King and Gomez were doubles partners at the Junior French Open.King also lost in the first round of the doubles. He and Canadian Pavel Krainik went down 4-6, 3-6 to Russians Viktor Baluda and Mikhail Bryukov.In the consolation finals, he defeated Peter Heller 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-7 and was also scheduled to play last night.In swimming, Lee-Ann Rose was second in her heat of the 100m backstroke in 1:08.41 and fourth in the 200m in 2:18.69.
