THE NATION FUN RIDE “Wheels of Fun” returned this year to a few spills and lots of thrills.
The event had been on hiatus for a couple years and thus did not record the high number of registrants as accustomed but more than 500 people still braved the cold morning weather to be at the Orange Mall, Warrens, St Michael for the prompt 5:30 a.m start, which was counted down by MC Mac Fingall.
The spills mostly happened on roundabouts as the road was slick with dew and some riders were moving a little too fast, the major one being at the James Tudor roundabout near the former Globe Cinema involving some of the more competitive riders. However, no major injuries were reported.
As for the thrills, young men performed stunts on the highway, including one who executed a daring handstand as he rode, as well as the thrill of completing the ride, not to mention the thrill of victory for the category winners.
The first person to cross the finish line was Simon Clarke who did the little more than 11 mile course in around half an hour. As a result, he was awarded first place in the Male Elite category. The first female to finish was Esther Miller-Rosemond, also in the Elite category.
The first Adult Male was Handal Davis while the first Adult Female was Crystal Springer. (CA)
