UNITED?Commercial Autoworks Ltd (UCAL)?has finally put the brakes on the work it does for the Transport Board until its workers are paid.
Since Wednesday the vehicle and maintenance company, which is located at the Transport Board’s Weymouth Complex, has refused to carry out any repairs on buses because they have not been paid since last Friday.
As a result, the Transport Board has been forced to divert UCAL’s work to external garages such as Simpson Motors, Quality Care and Trans-tech.
Shift foreman and director of UCAL, Richard Newton, told the WEEKEND?NATION yesterday that the workers had had enough.
“We have vowed not to do any work for the Transport Board until we are paid,”?he said. “We are working on external jobs but we are not touching any Transport Board buses.”
