Anyone wishing to enter the cash for gold business will have to be licensed and registered or they will be in breach of the law.
A police Press release yesterday outlined the force’s position on the trade, which many Barbadians were saying should be stopped as it was fuelling criminal activities.
“The Precious Metals And Second Hand Metals Act 2013 took effect from January 31, 2013, and it is the intention of the Royal Barbados Police Force to fully enforce the provisions of this particular legislation.
“Anyone who intends to operate as either precious metals dealers or second – hand metals dealers is required to immediately register as such to ensure compliance with the applicable legal requirements.” (PR/CA)
