CASTRIES – THE CROWD WAS ROLLING and living dangerously last night, as both Soca Queen Alison Hinds and reggae legend Barrington Levy performed full, energetic sets on the Main Stage of Pigeon Island.
Day 11 of the St Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival opened with harmonious performances by the Trinidadian group Alternative Quartet.
Comprising violinists Andre Donawa and Andre Comeau, viola player Nariba Herbert and cellist Wasia Ward, the quartet effortlessly fused their varied sounds and rendered many hits such as Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson and Happiest Man Alive by Machel Montano.
Opening for Alison Hinds was Teddyson John, whose hyper performance of his popular songs like Oh Gyal and Spread Love garnered much love from the lively crowd.
The already thick atmosphere seemed to explode however, when Hinds hit the stage with her signature voice and sex appeal, feeding the crowd’s hunger with Roll it Gal and Faluma.
Hinds’ performance was just the appetizer however, as Barrington Levy entertained the tumultuous crowd for a smashing one-hour set, with hits like Murderer and Living Dangerously.
The St Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival continues tonight at the Main Stage, where headliners P Square are set to make their appearance. (SM)
