AX week kicks off tomorrow

The north will come alive this weekend when the Alexandra School and the Alexandra School Alumni Association kick off the institution’s Founders Week activities.

The week starts with an Old Dub Fete in the hall of the school at Queen Street, St Peter, tomorrow at 7 p.m.

On Sunday at 8 a.m. there will be a service at the Christ is the Answer Family Church, Battaleys, St Peter for all past and present students of the 124-year-old school.

On Monday September 24, the school’s actual Founders Day, Barry Hill of Cover Drive fame will address students at morning assembly. Hill, an old scholar, is part of the four-member band, which has opened for superstar Rihanna Loud Tour and American chart topper Kelly Clarkson.

The group, which has been featured on former US President Barack Obama’s inaugural playlist, reached the top of the UK chart and has over 100 million YouTube/Vevo hits. Cover Drive’s music has also been featured on a number of popular television shows in the UK and the group had been nominated for a Soul Train Award.

On Wednesday, Career Day, the students will hear from, and be encouraged by past students in the fields of finance, journalism, health, tourism, science and others.

There will be an After-Work Cool Down Lime at Dockside Bar and Restaurant, at the Shallow Draught, Bridgetown, on Friday, September 28 from 5:30 p.m.

The final day of the activities, September 30, is a Games Day in which past students will take on present students in netball, football, volleyball and basketball at the school from 11 a.m. (PR)
