Axing of registrar may cost CXC

THE Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) may have to pay out over a quarter-million dollars to an assistant registrar who was fired in May last year.
The CXC was ordered by Jamaica’s Industrial Disputes Tribunal to reinstate assistant registrar Gerard Phillip by May 27, which it has failed to do.
Consequently, CXC may have to compensate him for 115 weeks – a sum, Phillip said could be about JAM$15 million (BDS$300 000).
“I am much aggrieved but satisfied that justice has been served. I’m thankful to God,” the Trinidadian told the SUNDAY SUN on Friday while passing through Barbados, where the CXC is headquartered.
He was last based at the organization’s office in Jamaica where the claim for unfair dismissal was lodged.
