THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL (QEH) is continuing to reach out to amputees by hosting the first annual QEH Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds to buy prostheses.
The tournament will be held next Saturday at the Barbados Golf Club in Durants from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Eighteen teams are expected to compete in the tournament which is being held under the theme Let Them Walk.
Surgical consultant at the QEH and tournament coordinator Dr Jonalagadda Ramesh told a news conference that they were hoping to raise $100 000 to go towards the hospital’s Rehabilitation Unit.
“This is intended to let our amputees in Barbados have access to prostheses, because as you know these artificial limbs are expensive,” he noted. “Because of the fact that we have so many amputations in Barbados, we thought that we would try to provide them with a better quality life.”
