Members of the public are invited to join the staff of the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) for a clean-up at the Morgan Lewis Beach, in St. Andrew, to mark International Coastal Clean-up Day.

The activity is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, and interested persons are asked to register with the department by Wednesday, September 12.

During the clean-up, the EPD will be collecting data on the litter found on the beaches as part of its National Marine Litter Monitoring Programme.

Interested volunteers who require transportation, and have registered before the deadline, are asked to assemble at the EPD, L.V. Harcourt Lewis Building, Dalkeith, St. Michael, by 5:15 a.m. However, persons who do not require transportation are asked to meet at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, at 6:00 a.m.

The Caribbean Youth Environment Network for Barbados will also be hosting beach clean-ups as part of the Barbados International Coastal Clean-up Day. Persons interested in participating may contact National Coordinator, Sade Deane, or Project Coordinator, Jamilla Sealy, at 622-2043.

Members of the public are also reminded that they must contact the National Conservation Commission and the EPD before planning their own clean-up events.

Further information may be obtained by contacting the Marine Pollution Officers at the EPD at 535-4600. (EPD/BGIS)
