King’s Crop Over vision

Crop Over 2019 could see the Republic Bank Grand Kadooment jump moving its starting point back to Warrens and going up to 7 p.m.

This suggestion came from Minister of Creative Economy and Culture John King, who delivered the feature address at the 2018 Crop Over Awards on Saturday night at Hilton Barbados.

Speaking to the Daily Nation on the sidelines of the reception, King said he had huge ideas where Grand Kadooment was concerned.

“I’ve been thinking that when we come down to Spring Garden, why do we stop there? Why not let us go through The City, through Broad Street past the [Queen’s] Park and make our way to Weymouth Playing Field with stalls, music, a big concert, fireworks, you name it. That’s where my head is.

“So we have to extend the time so we can get people down the road, so we can finish in that kind of a time. I want people when they are finished on Kadooment Day they have no energy to do anything else and can say they had a blast,” King said.  (DB)
