The?Transport?Board owes United Commercial Autoworks Ltd (UCAL)?more than $18 million.
And if the board does not settle this huge debt soon, the company will be forced to lay off workers or reduce its working week to four days.
A source at the company told the DAILY?NATION that all efforts had been made to have the Transport Board settle this debt which had been rapidly increasing since 2007.
“We have taken this matter to the Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister and they promised to go to Parliament and get a supplementary to pay some of the money, but up to now nothing has happened.”
When contacted, chairman of UCAL’s board, Sir Roy Trotman, confirmed the situation, pointing out that only on Monday he had been given an assurance by the Minister of Finance that some of the money would be made available to UCAL?early next year.
