Kingston, St Vincent – Barbados hammered Dominica by a whopping 224 runs to record the biggest win in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Women’s 50-Over League yesterday.At Arnos Vale Playing Field 2, the Barbadians, who were badly beaten by Jamaica on the opening day, hit back in a major way to make a whopping 283-7 off their 50 overs. They then bowled out the Dominicans for 59 runs.The best bowlers were seamers Danielle Small, with four for 12, and Shakera Selman, two for six. Pearl Etienne was Dominica’s best player with three for 62 and she also made 26 batting at the top of the order. Earlier in the day, Pam Lavine (59) and Charlene Taitt (57) batted beautifully on a good pitch. Opener Kycia Knight (46) and her twin sister Kyshonna (29) also helped to bolster the score.Pre-tournament favourites Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica both made it two wins in a row.Trinidad and Tobago had a close win by 13 runs over St Vincent and the Grenadines at Arnos Vale Playing Field 1, while Jamaica trounced St Lucia by 130 runs at Victoria Park. Guyana also got over Grenada by 85 runs at Stubbs Playing Field.Defending champs Trinidad and Tobago moved to the top of Zone B with eight points. Captain Anisa Mohammed won the Player Of The Match award for her five wickets for nine runs, which destroyed the home side’s batting.The hosts, replying to Trinidad’s 168, were in dire straits at 67-7 before Melissa Bellingy (31) and Sherry-Ann John (25) revived the innings in a seventh-wicket stand of 48. They eventually ended on 155-9 off 50 overs.Earlier, Gaitri Seetahal had topscored for Trinidad with 53. Mohammed, a world-rated off-spinner, said Trinidad were definitely looking to win the title for the second consecutive year.Captain Stafanie Taylor starred with 84, her second half-century in as many matches, as Zone A leaders Jamaica made 194 in a match reduced to 37 overs after rain delays. She returned to grab four for 15 from eight overs with her clever off-breaks as St Lucia were dismissed for 64 off 31.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Shanel Daley chipped in with three for 15 from seven overs.At Stubbs, Guyana also had things their own way with a dominant performance over Grenada. The Guyanese made 176-1 off their 50 overs, with and then bowled out the Grenadians for 91. Shemaine Campbell was Guyana’s best player with 64 not out in an unbeaten second-wicket stand of 161 with June Ogle-Thomas (81 not out). Campbell returned with her leg-spin to take three for 14 from nine overs, while Joanna van Sertima (three for 10) and Tremayne Smartt (three for 25) also did very well.The tournament continues tomorrow with four matches: Dominica vs Jamaica, St Lucia vs Barbados, Grenada vs Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana vs St Vincent and the Grenadines.
