CD could help young calypsonians

AGAIN, it was nothing but stellar performances from the contestants in the Scotia Bank Junior Calypso Monarch at the National Stadium on Saturday, July 24, 2010.

I congratulate all of the youngsters for their commendable effort. A special mention of Small One, whose song “Stop De Stigma”, had a strong message about HIV/AIDS.

I believe it is a song that should be utilised in the HIV commission advertising campaign as it could penetrate the very young audiences who may have been discriminated against by their peers.

Maybe one of the more experienced artistes like Edwin Yearwood or Alison Hinds can collaborate with Small One to make the song truly one of a kind.

In addition to this, I wish to see a CD with all of the great songs of the Junior Monarch calypsonians.

This way, these young students would have a permanent record of their work and the royalties from the CDs can go towards the contestants’ schools or to a fund which could help them with their academic or musical studies.
