Cycling might’ve just unearthed even more gems.
Add the names Kylan Browne and Winston Maynard to the list of the sport’s latest rising stars after the two young riders dominated their respective categories during last weekend’s BMX Track Championships at the Randolph Field Velodrome.
The two independents each won three events on the day. Browne rode unbeaten to sweep the 7-9 age group before Maynard eventually dropped the boys’ 10-12 sprint to Mario Elliott of A-Class Batteries Golden Wheelers.
But this was after Maynard had already taken the 500 metres and individual pursuit, before he returned to cap his successful showing with an impressive victory in the open handicap race.
Browne was equally as dominant while easing his way to wins in the 500 metres, individual pursuit and the sprint.
The championships also featured its own successful sister act in Golden Wheelers’ Ravonda and Renata Broomes, who both rode unbeaten in the girls’ 7-9 and 10-12 categories respectively.
For the second year running, Golden Wheelers rode away with the club title after Elliott and Javon Lyte paired to win the team sprint following some other podium finishes from teammates. (JM)
