Roan Baker and Luis Sebastian Weekes continue to lead Barbados’ gold medal rush at the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Swimming Championships in Aruba.
The two swimmers struck gold for the second time as Barbados increased their tally to 15 medals on Monday night’s penultimate day of competition at the Piscina Olimpico Roly Bisslick pool.
Baker won the Boys’ 13-14 200 Individual Medley in a time of 2:15:54 minutes while team mate Weekes touched first in the Boys’ 15-17 event with a time of 2:07.37 minutes.
Sebastian-Weekes also made an “A” qualifying time for the Youth Olympics and the “B” time of the Pan American Games.
Weekes’ first gold medal came on Saturday in the 200 metres breaststroke, when he also had a “B” qualifying Youth Olympics and Pan Am Games time of 2:22.21 minutes.
Barker also had a golden swim on Sunday night in the 400 Individual Medley when he posted a time of 4:47.31 minutes. He was also a bronze medallist in the 100 metres backstroke.
Barbados also secured a silver medal, with Aza Dunwoody clocking 2:32.86 minutes in the 200 metres butterfly event.
That was Barbados’ fifth silver medal, along with six gold and four bronze medals. (EZS)
