The Barbados Tridents Under-20 football team topped their group and qualified for the Round of 16 of the 2020 Concacaf Under-20 Championship with a well-earned 3-0 win over Cayman Islands in their final qualifying group game in Puerto Rico on Sunday.

Captain Niall Reid-Stephen and Brittons Hill front man Donte Greenidge scored second half goals for the Bajans after a defiant first half performance by the unfancied Cayman Islands.

Technical director Ahmed Mohammed was extremely pleased with the performance, especially since the Tridents won all three group games, but retained focus for the major task ahead of the young side.

“Cayman Islands didn’t make it as easy as we were expecting. We had our difficulties because they were sitting back and were extremely defensive. Around 10 or 15 minutes they got a red card and we had the upper hand, but we didn’t neutralise them,” he said. (NM)
