The Bajan death toll from the coronavirus in New York, the epicentre of the global pandemic, has climbed into double figures.
Jean Weekes-Husbands, a 65-year-old senior analyst at a financial investment firm in New Jersey, died yesterday morning in a Brooklyn hospital after being admitted a week before with symptoms of the deadly disease.
Weekes’ death was confirmed by her sister, Norma Weekes of Brooklyn, who told the DAILY NATION her sibling’s passing was a “terrible shock” to her family in the US and Barbados.
“Apart from asthma, Jean lived a healthy life. I was looking forward to her being discharged from Brookdale Hospital so we could welcome her home, but that wasn’t to be,” said her sister. (TB)
