A group of general surgeons employed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and management there are at loggerheads over the standard of equipment being used.
Speaking on Starcom Network’s call-in radio programme Down To Brass Tacks yesterday, general surgeon Dr Maurice Walrond, spokesperson for more than ten surgeons, bemoaned the inadequacies within operating theatres at the QEH. He also charged that the hospital’s hierarchy was not doing enough to keep the environment COVID-19 free.
Walrond even suggested patients who were COVID-19 positive but needed general surgery could find themselves at risk if transferred to the QEH for surgical procedures.
He said 11 colleagues from the Department of Surgery had put their signatures to a letter sent to Government itemising their concerns. (BA)
