An even heavier plume of Sahara dust is heading for Barbados June 20 and those with respiratory problems are being put on alert.

Met Office officials said that visibility will be reduced to five kilometres and they have again warned mariners not to venture too far out to sea, especially those without GPS on their vessels as seeing the shoreline will become difficult.

Along with dust, there will be showers providing a mix that will affect those on land and sea.

However, acting director of the Barbados Meteorological Services Sabu Best said there is no need to panic as the situation has occurred before.

During an urgently called press conference via Zoom on June 19, Best explained that because of the equipment and technology the agency was able to give an early forecast so that Barbadians could be better prepared for the adverse weather conditions. (AC)
