The mighty Gabby has thown the gauntlet to hotelier Paul Doyle and the Crane Beach Hotel.
And at least two attorneys, who joined him in protesting at the south eastern beach Saturday, say there could be legal ways to challenge the high water mark used by hoteliers to demarcate their properties.
The comments came as scores descended on Crane Beach in a protest action, organised by Chynna Glasgow, in support of beach vendor Neville Best, who found himself at the centre of a dispute with the hotel last week.
Best has refused to let the furore prevent him from enjoying the beach he loves and the profession he enjoys.
“Nah, I love what I do and I love Crane Beach,” he said. “And I will continue working here till I die.”
Anthony Gabby Carter, whose song Jack with its popular chorus line ‘da beach is mine’ has become a rallying cry for Barbadians protesting restriction of local beaches was vocal on the issue.
“I am warning Doyle – don’t let me have to write the song because it would make Jack look like a Sunday school picnic and I don’t want to do that,” he warned to cheers from the crowd as uniformed and plain-clothed police, as well as Crane Beach security, looked on.
The crowd later followed the musician across the beach and joined him in the popular song as visitors lounging on beach chairs took in the action. (HLE)
