Although the first two months of the Atlantic Hurricane Season were relatively inactive, Barbadians have been told not to become complacent.
Director of the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) Kerry Hinds gave that advice yesterday as she stressed there were still about four months left of the season which had been predicted to be above average.
“Last year we had impacts earlier on in June and July and in comparison, I know it has been a pretty dormant period for the first half of the hurricane season. But it is very important for us to always be on guard because as we know late August, September into October is traditionally the most active part of the season.
“Therefore, we encourage persons to be ready and get ready if you are not, continue to listen to our messages and information across the airwaves and social media, and ensure to do what you can on a personal, family and community level,” Hinds said.
She was speaking at Radisson Aquatica Hotel after the opening ceremony of the Sub-Regional Tsunami Evacuation Mapping Workshop. (TG)
