Hotel shock

The usual Saturday pudding and souse and karaoke lime at the popular Ixora Bar & Restaurant at Golden Sands Hotel ground to a screeching halt when two gunshots shattered the festivities.

Just before 7 p.m., three men robbed proprietor and owner of the Maxwell, Christ Church property, 81-year-old Denis Tull, of an undisclosed sum of money, leaving staff, patrons and guests of the hotel shaken.

Restaurant manager Angus Forde, who has worked there for the past four years, said it was the first time the place had been robbed.

“I was in the kitchen trying to help orders get processed and make sure that customers were satisfied. A waitress came into the kitchen with a startled look on her face, and said the place was being robbed. We all looked at her like, ‘What?’ About five or six staff members then ran through the kitchen door and down inside, and started to secure themselves in the back and said the place was being robbed,” he told the DAILY NATION.

Forde said at that point, his main concern was for Tull his father, a former police officer and well-known public service vehicle owner. (RA)
