Seven former employees of the Barbados Industrial Development Corporation, whose forced early retirement in 2015 prompted national industrial action, have been vindicated by the courts.

High Court Justice Jacqueline Cornelius today ruled that the action of the BIDC was unlawful, void and of no effect and ordered government to pay damages to the seven. She also ruled that Government’s decision to process the workers’ gratuity was unlawful and of no effect.

However the workers will not be reinstated as the judge ruled it appropriate to award damages as well as legal costs to the employees.

Lawyers for the BIDC have appealed the ruling.
