Members of the local Martial Arts Regional Organisation for Combat Karate/Jujitsu captured 27 medals at the Pan-Caribbean International Martial Arts Games in Trinidad.

Of those medals the ten-member squad, which competed at the National Cycling Velodrome in Couva on October 4 and 5, dominated the adult divisions to gain 11 gold, 11 silver and five bronze.

Faith Lorde, the lone female on the team, became one of four who picked up two gold medals.

She was named champion in the women’s open weight divisions in No-Gi grappling and combat sambo jujitsu of the women’s light weight division. Lorde also placed third in the women’s Intermediate division in point sparring.

Former MMA champion Corey Weithers took gold in the men’s light heavyweight division in No-Gi grappling as well as in the light heavyweight segment in combat sambo and jujitsu.

He missed a third gold when he had to settle for silver in point sparring of the black belt division.

Also bagging two gold medals was Kevin Holder, who performed exceptionally in both the men’s heavyweight section in No-Gi grappling and the heavyweight division in combat sambo and jujitsu.

Marlon Remise clinched the No-Gi grappling and combat sambi in the men’s bantamweight division.

Oneale Chase won the men’s middleweight section in combat sambo and jujitsu, but took silver in the welterweight division in No-Gi grappling and a bronze in the black belt section of the point sparring divisions.

Matthew Hinkson won point sparring in the men’s Intermediate division and collected silver and bronze in the middleweight division in No-Gi grappling and in combat sambo and jujitsu, respectively.

Although Sheldon Jones gained no gold medals, he won three silvers in the light heavyweight division in No-Gi grappling, combat sambo and jujitsu and Intermediate division in point sparring.

Fabian Sargeant seized two silvers following the men’s heavyweight division in No-Gi grappling and combat sambo and jujitsu competitions. (PR/RG)
