Rat race in the market

Rats are taking a bite out of the profits of vendors in the Cheapside Market.

WEEKEND NATION investigations revealed the rodents have almost overrun the main market, eating away at the produce stored there.

And while the rats have taken a liking to all of the vegetables and fruits, they have especially targeted the butternut squash and pumpkin.

One vendor, who requested anonymity, said she started taking extra precautions to avoid contracting leptospirosis.

She said that while the rat infestation had only recently become a problem, repeated complaints had been made to management. (RB)
