Shame at Edgbaston

BEATEN BY ENGLAND in three days on the field, West Indies are now getting a tongue-lashing beyond the boundary.

In the aftermath of an embarrassing defeat in the first of three Tests at Edgbaston on Saturday, several knowledgeable analysts, including former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding and ex-England captain Geoff Boycott, have bemoaned the quality of performance from the Caribbean side.

A no-nonsense Boycott, writing in the Telegraph, described this West Indies side as the worst Test team he had seen in more than 50 years of watching, playing and commentating on cricket.

“They can’t bat and can’t bowl. I take no pleasure out of saying this as I played against some of the greatest players the world has ever seen wearing the maroon cap of the West Indies,” he said. (HG)
