HEAVIER penalties await crop stealers.
That warning has come from Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resource Management, Dr David Estwick, who said that under the proposed new legislation, culprits caught engaging in praedial larceny would be severely punished.
Speaking during a press conference at his ministry’s Graeme Hall, Christ Church headquarters last week, Estwick said he believed the newly renamed and soon to be passed Agricultural Protection and Development Act would help to deter thieves.
“The new legislation is now completed . . . . This new legislation allows us a framework, although no framework is perfect. It is not perfect in any other countries which have more resources than we have, but I am confident that the other elements within the legislation will redound significantly to managing the incidents of praedial larceny in Barbados,” he said.
