Bank blues for businesses

IT’S A CASE OF MORE MONEY, more problems for slot machine operators as they now face the prospects of not knowing where to put their earnings.

That’s because commercial banks are apprehensive about doing business with them over the fear of money laundering.

Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite highlighted the issue yesterday during a regional anti-money laundering workshop at the Radisson Aquatica Resort.

“Here in Barbados we have the issue of our slot room operators. Businesses that have been around for 25 to 30 years and employ hundreds of persons, wake up one day and are being told, ‘We cannot bank with you anymore’,” he said. (AD)
