The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) was given a harsh grade yesterday ahead of a major meeting hosted by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.
Various stakeholders gathered at the CSME consultation themed What’s In It For Me? at the Caribbean Examinations Council’s headquarters, Pine Plantation Road, St Michael.
CSME adviser Desiree Field-Ridley outlined the deficiencies still plaguing the regional integration initiative 18 years later.
“The basic infrastructure is in place . . . [but] it is not as efficient or as effective as it needs to be. We need to get to the point where we can see the impact of the CSME. We need to see increased production, we need to see increased exports and we need the average CARICOM national seeing the benefits,” she said. (CA)
