Retired prison officers feel put out

MEMBERS of the Retired Prison Officers Association are unhappy that they have been locked out of Glendairy.

For the last three weeks they have not been able to gain access to the old prison at Station Hill, St Michael, where they had been holding meetings for the past three years, a member told the SUNDAY SUN.

The prison has been out of use since it was partially destroyed by fire in 2005. It was decommissioned last year and handed over to the Ministry of Housing and Lands.

Calling the situation “disrespectful”, the member, who did not want to be named, said the association was given permission by Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, under whose ministry the prison fell before it was decommissioned, to have their meetings there. (MB)
