BARBADOS WILL be Looking to improve on their medal tally at the upcoming Carifta Swimming Championships in The Bahamas.
President of the Amateur Swimming Association, Tony Selby, told NATIONSPORT he expected a good performance from the Barbadian swimmers.
Following last week’s National Long Course Swimming Championships and qualifiers at the Aquatic Centre, a team of 26 was selected to represent Barbados at the meet which is scheduled for the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Swim Complex in Nassau from April 14 to 19.
Barbados captured 44 medals – 18 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze – at last year’s championships in Martinique.
“We expect the team will perform very well in the 13 to 14 age group for girls, especially. We have Danielle Titus, Danielle Treasure and Ashley Weekes. I expect very good performances from them,” Selby said.
He added that in the 11-12 divisions, he was sure that Christopher Pollard and Zachary Taylor would dominate.
Selby revealed that it was unfortunate that there would only be two performers in the Girls’ 15-17 division but they too had a good chance.
“Hannah Gill is a seasoned performer and we would expect her to do very well, particularly in the distance events – 200 metres, 400 metres and 800 metres freestyle and to be challenged by McKayla Treasure.”
Selby added that he expected Damon St Prix to lead in the Boys’ 15-17 in the freestyle, Louis Sebastian-Weekes to be competitive in the breaststroke and the individual medley events and Jack Kirby in the backstroke.
The president also said Nkosi Dunwoody should lead the charge in the Boys’ 13-14 age-group.
“Dunwoody performed very well at Nationals. He should do well since this is his second year in the 13-14 division.
“But I think all round we should do well. We have relay teams in every age group except the 15-17 Girls’ so we are looking for a very good showing,” said Selby. (RG)

Girls’ 11-12 – Aza Dunwoody, Keilani Talma, Adia Deane, Ti-Juana Welch.
Boys’ 13-14 – Nkosi Dunwoody, McCallum Clarke, Tristan Pragnell, Roan Baker.
Girls’ 13-14 – Danielle Titus, Danielle Treasure, Ashley Weekes, Zara Gaskin.
Boys’ 15-17 – Damon St Prix, Jack Kirby, Luis Sebastian-Weekes, Kobi Talma.
Girls’ 15-17 – Hannah Gill, McKayla Treasure.
Nkosi, Eric Kirby and Noah Kirby will compete in the Boys’ open water
1.5K while Danielle Clarke will be in the Girls’ 14-15.
Rebecca Lashley will take part in the Girls’ 15-16 open water event.
