TWO BARBADIAN WOMEN were charged with drug trafficking and other offences after Customs officials discovered cannabis concealed in barrels on two occasions last week.
Sally Anne Smith, 51, of Crusher Site Road, Prospect, St James was charged with possession of cannabis, trafficking, possession with intent to supply and importation.
Twenty-five-year-old Latoya Toni Broomes of Atlantic View, Gemswick, St Philip also received similar charges.
Last Thursday at Freight Handling Services Freightliner, Brighton, St Michael, customs officials reportedly discovered six transparent wrapped packages containing cannabis concealed in six bottles of peanut butter while inspecting a barrel of imported foodstuff.
The six pounds of cannabis had a street value of $24 000.
The following day at the same location, customs officials again discovered nine pounds of cannabis with a street value of $36 000.
Broomes allegedly made arrangements with another person to have the cannabis concealed in a barrel of foodstuff. It was discovered in six cans of fruit cocktail.
Smith and Broomes appeared before Magistrate Graveney Bannister in the District ‘A’ Court on Saturday. They both pleaded guilty to all of the offences and were referred to the Drug treatment Court. (PR/SAT)
