WELL ARTICULATED, but little substance! That’s how political scientist Peter Wickham has described Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler’s press conference on the state of the Barbados economy which was held yesterday at Government Headquarters.
During the 90-minute press conference, Sinckler gave an overview of the country’s economic performance in 2016. He assured Barbadians, among other things, that the economy was seeing the strongest levels of growth since 2007, the dollar was in no danger of being devalued, the country was not going to the International Monetary Fund for assistance, and there had been no major expansion in discretionary Government expenditure.
Wickham, director of the Caribbean Development Research Services, told the DAILY NATION while Sinckler should be lauded for his willingness to address the nation, his report had little to go on. (RB)
