Carpooling option to beat traffic

DRIVERS MAY SOON have to share their vehicles if they want to beat the daily St Michael gridlock.

Carpooling is one of the recommended policies coming from The Town Planning Department, the agency overseeing the island’s land use, and it is also under consideration by the Ministry of Transport and Works, which regulates road use.

Dedicating an express lane for high-occupancy vehicles, a park-and-ride system and the use of ferries are some of the proposals from the two Government agencies to beat congestion and increase productivity.

Chief Town Planner Mark Cummins told the SUNDAY SUN that the recommendation formed part of the Physical Development Plan and would involve the Wildey Gymnasium, St Michael; the car park at Oistins, Christ Church; and The Glebe, St George, as pickup and drop-off points. (AC)
