Trump cut ‘will not stop BFPA’s work’

THE BARBADOS FAMILY PLANNING ASSOCIATION (BFPA) is “financially sound” and its core work will not be affected by the financial cut to Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Days after United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order to halt funding to the US body, which is an affiliate of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, executive director of the BFPA Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland is assuring the country that its services will not be adversely affected by the move.

“As a general rule, BFPA does not rely heavily on US government funding [or external funding] to sustain our work, and therefore our core work is not affected by this policy. We remain financially sound,” she said in a press statement.

However, she admitted that the HIV programme was partially funded by an American non-governmental organisation, which would be affected by the cut. (YB)
