LEGISLATIVE THREATS aimed at muzzling the unions and a silence from Government on speculation of a possible International Monetary Fund’s restructuring programme are two issues the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is facing this year.
And while general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, Toni Moore, has called on Government to talk and allay the fears of the public, she also urged the movement and its members to move forward in unity.
Moore made the comments as she addressed a gathering at the union’s Frank Walcott Labour College in Mangrove, St Philip, yesterday. The fun day was held as part of celebrations to mark Errol Barrow Day.
Noting that the year had “opened up with more challenges than we would have anticipated” and that the “journey ahead does not promise to be easy”, Moore noted there was an air of uncertainty in the country as speculation mounted that the workers and people of Barbados “could be subjected to an IMF restructuring programme”.
