The inaugural Fundraising Drinks Party for the Desmond Haynes Foundation was a hit for six, with several supporters of a charitable cause designed to benefit Barbados’ promising young cricketers attending the fundraising auction at the Coral Reef Club.

Chairman and founder of the UK’s leading talent management agency, Professor Jonathan Shalit, OBE, was a “superb” auctioneer, attracting great bids for cricket equipment signed by famous cricketers such as Sir Garfield Sobers, Brian Lara, Andrew Strauss, and Alastair Cook. Among other items on the auction block were a sailing trip on Ms Barbados and a stay at the Coral Reef Hotel.

The man whose name the foundation bears described it as “a wonderful evening.”

“I am grateful to all those involved. My dream is to see the foundation go full circle, with one day one of the many young people we have or will support, returning to such an event and putting something back into the foundation as a result of the assistance they had received from us,” said Haynes.

Young Barbadian cricketers, of both sexes, whose application and criteria are ratified by the foundation committee, benefit from the ability to attend college overseas to further their education and improve their well-being.

An array of past and present Barbados and West Indies cricketers were there rubbing shoulders with benefactors of the charity. (GC)
