CELLPHONES and electronic devices have been banned from the dressing rooms of the Barbados Cricket Supplies Under-13 club tournament.

Chairman of the tournament committee, Adrian Donovan, revealed yesterday that the decision was taken after it was observed in previous competitions that many players were busy on the mobile phones when they should be focusing on the game. nocellphonesallowed

“Cellphones and other electronic devices are doing so much damage to our young people that they can be considered weapons of mass distraction. This present generation is in deep trouble. Sports administrators must bite the bullet in the coming New Year, otherwise the situation is going to get out of hand,” he told WEEKENDSPORT.

This is the first time such a measure has been instituted in a local tournament, but it will be applicable only on game day. (RA)
