GOVERNOR GENERAL Sir Elliott Belgrave made it clear yesterday that he intends to retire next year.
As he visited the island’s newest centenarian, Elma Ernesta Timothy, in Ventnor Gardens, Rockley, Christ Church, he said his time as the country’s head of state was drawing nigh.
“I’m supposed to demit office sometime next year. Don’t ask me what date because I’m not going to tell you now. That’s for the Prime Minister to let The Queen know,” he told the media.
“But I can assure you that if I’m alive and well, I will not be in office. I have made up my mind and I’m going home, and I’m happy to go home,” he added. (AD)
