LOCAL ENTERTAINERS HAVE raked in close to $2 million in copyright royalties over the last five years.

Of the $1 929 436 that was paid out by the Copyright Society of Composers Authors and Publishers Inc. (COSCAP), just about $500 000 went to 924 local members last year.

Around half of the royalties came from restaurants, nightclubs and retail shops, CEO Erica Smith said.

“I must say that generally over the years the level of compliance has improved although you’ll see a few of the bigger companies that aren’t. It’s a question of attitude. I think generally there is a bit more understanding of intellectual property rights and the purpose of copyright licensing,” she said. (WILLCOMM)
