IT SEEMS THAT Government may have just caved in under the threat of industrial action from the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).
Following a meeting with environmental health inspectors at the union’s Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters yesterday morning, general secretary Roslyn Smith hinted that possible industrial action would occur today unless they got a meeting with Government’s Chief Personnel Officer over the demotion of NUPW president Akanni McDowall from his Government post.
But by nightfall, a release from the Barbados Government Information Service stated that a meeting would be held today between the two parties to “discuss the ‘reversion’ of Akanni McDowall”.
When contacted last night, Smith did acknowledge the meeting between the two parties would be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Personnel Administration Division. However, she refused to rule out the possibility of industrial action. (AD)
