ST MICHAEL NORTH and St Michael North East took giant strides towards the round of 16, as the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic continued at Friendship ground Saturday night.

St Michael North edged St James North 2-1 in first game and home side St Michael North East cruised to a 2-0 victory over St Michael Central.

A sizeable crowd witnessed a keenly contested opening game as both sides started progressively with both Ian Jones and Marc Alleyne producing testing strikes for St Michael North and St James North, respectively.

Neither goalkeepers, Kishmar Primus of St Michael North nor Sean Fields of St James North, was in the mood to concede early though; and impressive stops at either end meant that scores remained level until deep into the first half. (ML)
